Why this exists

I grew up in Namibia and built a career in Windhoek, Johannesburg and Amsterdam. For most of it I carried a quiet question into every room I entered: do I belong here? I wrote a book about learning the answer, called Learning to Belong.

The book is one route. This site is for all the others: the engineer from Lagos in her first Toronto winter, the accountant from Manila learning to read a Dubai boardroom, the parents raising children three languages away from their own mothers. People who moved, started over, and are still working out how the new place works.

Here you will find stories from people on those routes, short practical notes, and a letter every few weeks. If you have a story, send it in. If you just want to add your line to the map, that counts too.
